A Friend and bandmate has passed away

Friday, January 29th, 2010

Last night, J. Rivet, keyboard player of MyParasites, past keyboard player in viktim, and founding member of The Harvest, passed away.

J, was a great guy, and talented musician. He was probably one of the nicest people I ever met, and I really feel lucky to have played in bands with him, and to have called him my friend.

He is gone now, he was working on a solo album, which will hopefully see the light of day in the future, and he was going to college, with plans to be a Politician. J was going to change the world, and even though he didn’t get the opportunity to change the world he still changed my life and all of us that were blessed enough to have played in a band with him.

I just needed to take a moment, and make sure everyone knew that the world is going to be a little darker now, because this one candle carried so much light.

Services will be coming up soon, details as they made known to me will be relayed here.

Going to miss you man.

Recently i stumbled upon an old, very old tape, labeled “stillbourne” in a drawer, in my old room at my grandparents house. I thought i knew exactly what it was, once i found it, and i was right.

This was a tape i recorded in about 1995, or 1996. I used a couple reel to reel machines, a very large Roland keyboard, a regular tape machine, and i believe a pair of headphones for a microphone.

It was mostly tape loops, but some of it was very early sequencing work i did, and it was really great to listen to. It did start off rather bland, but by half way through there was this noisey segment probably around a half hour long that just struck me in a way my music hasn’t in a long time.

When i had so very little equipment, i took very large risks, and experimented, and really went all out for the music. Compared to now, where i have a seemingly endless supply of kick drum samples, let along racks of gear.

So from a discussion i had with mike912, i developed the hint of an idea. Old school project, working with old material, circa the mid to late 90’s. Which is really when much of the industrial i like came out, anyway.

So with this as my foundation, i will move outward from here. I have gathered so far for this project.

Alesis ADAT xt24
Panasonic DAT SV-3900
E-MU XL7 Command Station
Roland TD-7 Drum set
Alesis D4 Drum brain
Boss SE-50 Vocal Processor

NO keyboards you say? well, i have the MS200r, and the Polar Virus, buyt yeah, i gotta pick up something old. I have an SK-1 i could circuit bend, but though the basis of the SK1 is “old” circuit bending has too much a modern taste for this project.

I guess ill use the ASR-10, and i think sascha has an old Yamaha keyboard.
