The show on thursday went okay, on our end it went very well, on the physical club, it was hectic, as is expected at Ulana’s.
The way we ran things was as Dean called it, a “round robin” of the three bands. we work together very well, Myself, Jaws, and Myk. Thats pretty much ‘the core’ of all three bands: viktim, myparasites, and ninetwelve on a ‘live performance’ level.
Not slighting anyone else we play with, of course. I love everyone I’ve played with, and that has shared my vision with me. Sounds really pretentious when I say “vision”, but really, thats what they do, they help me live my dream, so anyway.
we had the stage set up, i was stage right, with my rack, where i set the drop from the FOH above. Myk also set up his keys there, as he and i would rotate mostly, on keys, except when i went to the other side and played Jaws’ keys for MP set.
There was no stage monitors, which really ended up being a nightmare. we are looking into two options. Either we are going to purchase at minimum ONE powered monitor, ala a mackie or JBL EON, or we are going to dive into debt and buy some in-ears.
Jaws wanted to process his vocals through his keyboard and his computer, but it was feeding back, and we couldnt get the volume we needed, because that mic doesnt have the gate/compressor on it, like we do with the sm58 chanell. So he ended up using our mic being processed through the SE-50.
The Set was:
1. ninetwelve – don’t say a word
2. ninetwelve – goodbye
3. ninetwelve – Kill it with a Chainsaw
4. viktim – waiting
5. viktim – dream
6. myparasites – emotional starvation
7. myparasites – nowfunction
8. myparasites – you and i
9. viktim – driven
10. viktim – brand new
11. viktim – a forest
12. myparasites – metal veinz
13. ninetwelve – mother of darkness
14. ninetwelve – cumhog
It went well. we switched up correctly, and myk straight up killed on guitar, i was impressed. He had assured me that he was proficient, and i knew he was great on keys, so i figured ” i trust him, so lets do it” and man, i was rewarded for my belief in him. he does indeed shred, he soloed his balls off on ‘ a forest’, and everything went well.
we all got lost on the viktim song ‘brand new’ though. i couldnt hear anything, none of us could. it ended up being a trainwreck. i think thats part of why a forest came out so well, lol, was because we had just wrecked on ‘bran new’, so i was taking precautions. I hope there is a pic of it, haha, but myk and i are front of the stage, im bent down, slapping the front of the stage counting, and hes listening for the downbeat, and well, it worked. This is an example of how my idea from a couple months back, of getting one of those DJ LED metronomes might be a good idea. I could take a click off the track, put it to the metronome and put it dead front of the stage, facing us, so we the band could watch it.
there wasnt alot of people there, i think the door guy said 45, but hey thats not bad. we had booked and promoted the show in two weeks. We took advantage of the power strip fest being the next two nights after the regular infection X, and thought ‘lets see if any out of towners are in thursday, maybe we can get exposure to new faces” and we did.
The main draw back about ulanas, well, the main two, lol, is a) lack of subs ie. no banging bass and b) no stage monitors. The only time it really sounds right is when bands bring in there own back;line, and fuck man, for that short of notice, and the big chance of no one coming because they are broke, saving money for power strip, i didnt want to rent subs.
anyway, it went well. i guess, lol. yeah, it was fun. i think we had a good bonding night, if anything.
hopefully i will have some pics to post. The guys from The Wired came, and i think they snapped some pics. I was glad to see them, they’re great guys. I gotta get sometime when neither of us is playing and we can all get wasted and have a good time, without me having to worry about my gear the whole time.
