so scotty our drummer brings this lil camcorder to our rehersals and sticks it up in the corner of the room, it records, thats its job, it gets a recording of us, a lil physical transcription of what we did, and what we need to work on. well, we got lucky on this one, cuz we played everything pretty goddamn tight and as a one mic recording, it isnt too half shabby.

So i felt tht this could be a good peak in the window to see what kinda rape and rampage it is that we are throwing down, not just talking a good game, right? so yeh, i picked one.

Sunday evening for rehersal we brought out the big rig. The monitors, and also the adat to record rehersals. Things didn’t go quite as smoothly as i had hoped, but i still was able to lay tape.

We didn’t have the entire group, we were down Nick (bass) and Cannon (guitar) as they were watching the Flyers game. Hey, its apparently a once every 100 years thing or something that the Flyers are doing, so its excusable

The monitors are JBL JRX 115’s run through a QSC 3250 amp, but since they are 115s and not 18’s they really aren’t made to handle the bottom end of the kick drum, which is exactly what we brought it in for, so that was kinda beat. We had mic’ed the kick rather than triggering it, which sorta led to some humming feedback really low, and i think we have to rethink this plan. We might go back to triggering it, then the feedback issue is gone when Scott plays, and we will still hear the kick nice and clear the entire time.

However we did run the keys through the PA and that was sick. Chris was loud and clear, which was a big improvement for the rest of us over the way we did it before, which was via a Bass amp ( a bass amp and a keyboard amp are the same thing).

That is how we were doing the kick before as well, through a keyboard/bass amp, and that was working, i guess maybe that’s how we need to do it again. not sure. We had mounted a trigger to the kick, and experimented with battery as the sample source and with an Alesis DM5 drum brain.

I haven’t dumped the rehersal recording into the computer yet from the Adat, hoping to do that today. This is just reference tape for us as a band, and maybe to get some live shows. We need to be able to give a good representation of what the band is like now in order to get the kind of shows we are interested in playing.

They bring some brutality on a regular basis out there in california, with just two guys on stage ripping shit apart with samplers, drum machines, guitars, bass, keys, its nuts. ( actually they added a third dude now, so its three guys)
